Meremaa moves pallets between Estonia, Latvia and Finland. Every Monday, a dispatcher sent customers a spreadsheet listing where their goods were. It worked until the company grew past two hundred customers.
We built a simple tracker. Customers sign in with a link sent by email, see their shipments on a list, and open each one for a timeline of events. Drivers update the status with a mobile form that works offline and syncs when the phone gets a signal, which matters on the roads between Pärnu and Riga.
We kept the technology plain: a server-rendered app, a Postgres database and a few background jobs. It runs on two small servers in a Tallinn data centre. When the dispatcher asked us to add a feature, we said no to half of them, and the tracker is still easy to use.
